9 5.12

It is 12th May, 2009 today.
It should be a normal day. However, to all Chinese, today is so special.
On the same day of last year, a drastic disaster occurred in China. The houses collapsed; the utilities were cut off; thousands of lives were lost. The whole nation was shocked, submerged in great sorrow. Sichuan earthquake caught the attention of the entire country.
Money, clothes, food, medicine and other aids were soon donated voluntarily by people across the country and sent to the disaster areas. Doctors and soldiers were dispatched there immediately. Some ordinary people even gathered together, formed teams to Sichuan and helped rescue voluntarily. Our Chairman, prime minister and other government officers went to the disaster areas and directed the rescue actions personally despite of the dangers. The whole nation united in struggle.
That was a tough battle which had never happened so seriously before. We Chinese won it finally because we were united.
Having suffered such a heavy disaster, we become more aware of the value of life. Facing the threat of natural disasters, life is so vulnerable. We do not cherish it until we are losing it. The earthquake reminded us to live to its full, for ourselves as well as for the dead. The fact that many people lost their loved ones in this earthquake cannot be changed no matter how hard we try. To those alive, sadness and sorrow are useless. We should look forward and continue working and studying.
Today is the one-year anniversary of Sichuan Earthquake. Besides sorrow and sadness, we see more hope. The life in disaster areas is returning to normal; people live positively; the nation is united as a whole and continues developing.
We will not forget Sichuan Earthquake. We keep it in mind and encourage ourselves to move on.
