“Why so serious?”
Those who have seen the movie “The Dark Knight” should still remember the one of the most impressive lines in this film. It is said by the Jocker, in a sharp and horrible voice full of anger and sin. “The Dark Knight” came out last summer and made a huge success. Known as the sixth Batman film, it has promoted the position of the whole series to a certain height that seems unreachable for all the other films made in the 21th century.
Unlike the Jocker’s words, “The Dark Knight” is a very serious film. Though Bruce Wayne(the Batman) is still the main character in the film and plays the most important role in the story, this film talks about much more than super hero. Actually three questions are raised in the film: “Does Gothen city need a dark hero?”, “Are human’s inside good or evil?”, “What is the most important thing to hold in order to save a city full of crime and sin?”. It’s no doubt that the three questions are successfully answered in the film. The Jocker is the symbol of all the evil things in Gothen, he wants to prove that the citizens in Gothen are all evilly inside. But he finally failed, not only beaten by the Batman, but also beaten by all the good citizens in Gothen. People find hope by themslves, which used to be represented by Harvey Dent, Gothen’s new mayor in the future. But Harvey Dent, Gothen’s bright knight doesn’t have a good ending, he was destroyed by the Jocker and became another bad guy called the Two Face. Batman killed him at the end of the film and put all the evil things that was done by Harvey on himself. Only in this way can the citizens in Gothen still have their hope, the saving of Gothen will all base on this.
The making of this film can’t be easy. Heath Ledger made his best acting performance in his career, the script of the film which is written by David S.Goyer belongs to the greatest scripts in the film history, and Christopher Nolan certainly did a great job as the director of the film. “Batman Begins” in 2005 had already made people regain their interest in the Batman films. Then, with a box office of more than five hundred million dollars only in North America and an incredible IMBD score of 9.7(even higher than the score of “The Godfather”), in 2008, “The Dark Knight” came out and shocked the whole world.
Then we were waiting for the admission from the Academy Award. But the pity is that as far as we know only Ledger gets a nomination. Why can’t Goyer get a nomination for the Best Original Script? Why can’t Nolan get an award for the Best Director? Why can’t “The Dark Knight” just be the Best Film in 2008? It doesn’t matter actually. Though the Oscar doesn’t choose “The Dark Knight”, people have chosen “The Dark Knight”. It is said that in July, 2008, everyone went into cinemas simply to watch this film, ninty-four percent of the mediae said that “The Dark Knight” was a very good film, and that is how the Knight won.
